Congratulations to Rodney Mays, who achieved his 200th first team appearance during the 2009 season, in an unbroken run going back to 1997.
Rod played his first game for LHCAFC as a 17 year old, in what was then, the National League. Prior to joining the club, Rod had been a member of the NZ U17 squad that played in Egypt in 1997. He joined Lower Hutt on his return from Egypt and that was the start of his long run of unbroken first team appearances.
Rod's most memorable game was the 13-0 win against Miramar in May 2000. He recalls with great delight the 5 goals he scored that day - and reckons he could've scored more had he not gone off injured!
One of the key players in the LHCAFC Central League squad, Rod intends to keep playing for a few years yet - but is also a huge contributor to the club in other ways, coaching one of our Junior teams the last couple of years and in 2010 will step up into the Club Captain's role.
Many thanks for your contribution Rod!
